Overview
These fallacies are often used in an argument: appeal to fear, appeal to authority, and appeal to false authority. An appeal to fear occurs when an argument is made that people must act a certain way, and if they don’t, then dire consequences could arise. However, there is no logic to this kind of fear; it’s not based on evidence or reason. An appeal to authority occurs when an argument is presented as valid because an authority claims it is valid or is used to support the argument. However, the “authority” may have no expertise regarding the argument topic!
